Born in London, Chris Dench arrived in Australia in 1989 and was naturalised in 1992. After periods living in Sydney, Armidale, Melbourne, Canberra, and Newcastle, he now lives in Ballarat. He has been writing music for fifty-five years and has produced an extensive catalogue of works performed, broadcast, and issued on CD, world-wide. He spent his early working life selling LPs in South London; he has also worked as a reviewer, a peripatetic interviewer, a copyright licensing officer, a bookshop chain manager, at a telephone company call-centre, in the ATO, and, for ten of the last seventeen years, in Melbourne’s premier classical CD shop. He is now entirely freelance, working as a composer and, intermittently, in the CD industry.
