Francis Atkins is a fiery and passionate musician from Brisbane. His steadily flourishing career as a pianist has seen him onstage in music festivals and recitals in Japan and throughout Australia.
With a penchant for diversity and eclecticism, Francis is often found either programming the strangest repertoire for a recital, or searching for a new skill for his pianistic toolbelt. He is equally at home as concerto soloist, chamber musician, and repetiteur.
2022 saw Francis take first prize at the Minnie May Bussey piano competition, as well as snatching up the repetiteur scholarship in the prestigious Lisa Gasteen National Opera Program. 2021 saw similar accomplishments, where he was featured as a young artist in the Brisbane Music Festival, and in QPAC alongside the Southern Cross Soloists. Francis was also awarded first place for best duo performance in the Basil Jones Sonata Prize alongside violin-virtuoso Robert Smith.
2023 engages Francis in many of his facets, returning once more to the stage of the Brisbane Music Festival, the Sunshine Coast Chamber Music Festival, as a collaborator with Voxalis Opera, and soloist with the Brisbane Concert Orchestra.
As a regular human being, Francis often forgets to water his houseplants, loves swimming in the ocean, scuba diving, and a good pinot noir.
Francis Atkins’ appearance in the 2023 Brisbane Music Festival is supported by Maggie + Mike Goodfellow.
