
Toowoomba-based baritone Jon Maskell is a graduate of Griffith University Queensland Conservatorium (Graduate Diploma of Music Studies) and the University of Southern Queensland (Bachelor of Music with Honours). While studying, Jon won the Joyce Campbell-Lloyd Overseas Scholarship which funded lessons with Robert Dean of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London.
Jon has been a regular performer with Opera Queensland since 2010. Principal engagements for Opera Queensland include Maximilian in Candide, Kromov in The Merry Widow, 2nd Fisherman in Peter Grimes, 2nd Priest in St Matthew Passion & Servant in La Traviata as well as Bogdonovitch in their performance of The Merry Widow at Jimbour House.Jon has also covered the roles of Angelotti in Tosca, Servant, Marchese & Il Dottore in La Traviata, and Yamadori & Commissioner in Madama Butterfly.
Jon has sung as the bass soloist in concert works including Handel’s Messiah, Alexander’s Feast & Judas Maccabeus, Bach’s St John Passion, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols. Jon’s concert stage performances include soloist engagements with Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Underground Opera, Brisbane City Pops Orchestra, Toowoomba Philharmonic Choir, Brisbane Concert Choir, the USQ Singers, Musica Antiqua Collegii & Ars Cantorum Toowoomba.
