
Leonardo Ferreira Silva (b. 1989) is a Brazilian composer currently based in Berlin. After obtaining a Bachelor Degree in Engineering (2008-2013) in his hometown Belo Horizonte, he decided to abandon the field and turn to music composition by moving to Europe in 2013.
Leonardo in his early years as a composer was never enrolled in a musical institution in his homeland of Brazil, being primarily self-taught. He later received private guidance from Brazilian composers Rubner de Abreu, Rogério Vasconcelos and Roberto Toscano and then officially began his studies in 2014 at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste directly enrolling to a Masters under the guidance of Isabel Mundry, having obtained in December 2016 his Masters degree in Music Composition.
Leonardo has been awarded since then a 1st prize at the isa-music Festival (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna), an Artistic Residency in Berlin offered by by Stadt Zürich Kultur, finalist at the First International Composition Contest Viola’s by Association Franco-européenne de l’Alto and more recently a Diplom of Merit by Salvatore Sciarrino at the renowned Accademia Chigiana. Leonardo is currently pursuing a Meisterklasse Degree in Composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater »Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy« Leipzig (2020-2022).
