
Described by Badische Neueste Nachricht as “a pianist with not only extraordinary technique, but poeticism in depth”, Roger Cui is a touring concert pianist. An alumnus of Queensland Conservatorium, Hochschule für Musik in Karlusrhe Germany, and Anton Rubinstein International Academy in Düsseldorf Germany, his competition accolades include major prizes from Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition (Brisbane), Petrov National Piano Competition (Brisbane), Southern Highland International Piano Competition (Sydney), Cleveland International Piano Competition (U.S.A.), and Kerikeri International Piano Competition (New Zealand). Since his 2nd prize success at the International J.S. Bach Music Competition in Berlin Germany, Roger has been a Yamaha Music Europe GmbH sponsored artist that saw him perform extensively in festivals and concert halls around the world and give performance/pedagogical masterclasses in Asia, Australia, and Europe.
Whilst based in Hamburg Germany, Roger was a piano lecturer at the Yamaha International Music Academy, guest pianist and principal repétituér for Staatsoper Hamburg and Opernloft Hamburg, and lecturer in Business at Kühne Logistik Universität. Together with his business partner, Roger established the Black-Note Production Studio (formerly known as Ladybug Studio Europe), which focuses on Film music scoring, sound engineering and sample library creation.
Since returning to Australia in 2018, Roger divides his work between Europe and the Asia-Pacifics. Currently, Roger plays as a guest pianist for Southern Cross Soloists, Queensland Ballet and Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Since April 2022, Roger heads the piano faculty at the Coffs Harbour Regional Conservatorium.
