Message From the Artistic Director
Dear Friends,
After another year of bizarre and frustrating turbulence, we are proud to present the 5th Brisbane Music Festival.
As we’ve spent quite a lot of the last two years delivering in the digital space, in the spirit of rebirth, this years season will be performed entirely LIVE!
Over six months, we feature 44 events in 16 unique venues throughout the city of Brisbane and in metropolitan + regional touring locations around the country.
Continuing our commitment to presenting work both old and new in equal measure, we are proud to present the World Premiere of 17 vibrant new Australian works and five Australian premieres. We are excited to bring you the global talent of 43 incredible featured artists from all over Australia, London, Berlin, Dublin, Munich, Paris, Holland and New York City.
If there is a theme of this years festival, it is that of ‘the old world meets the new’. Familiar canonical works are more often than not re-imagined in stunning new arrangements, while new works derive inspiration from music of the past.
We are proud to continue our partnerships with Opera Queensland + Victorian Theatre Company and in 2022 welcome two major new partners: Kawai Australia + Brisbane Writers Festival.
A new facet of this years festival is our categorization of shows into various series; Mainstage, Morning Melodies (for the early-risers), Up Late (for the night-owls), Studio Series (up-close and personal) + On Tour. I sincerely hope that you enjoy each and every one of these curated offerings. Every show is filled with captivating music and truly world-class artists.
I look forward to seeing you throughout the festival!
Alex Raineri (Artistic Director)
